The
Detroit School of Arts "Lights Up Detroit"
K'Jon premieres new
"Light Up Detroit" theme song for Detroit!
On November 17th, national recording artist, K'Jon, made a
special visit to the renowned Detroit School of Arts in
downtown Detroit to premiere the new "Light Up Detroit" theme song.
Backed by 24 female singers and a dramatic
slideshow of Detroit's most iconic images, he performed the song along
with Redi Shorter and Calvin Lyons, two
talented students in the singing program. It was sensational.
The purpose of the
event was to showcase the song, the school and the
remarkable students who study at this elite
institution which attracts candidates from more than 30 miles away. Principal Ahna Felix-Brown
hopes it will shine a
bright light on all the singing, dancing, music, and artistic
talent that
resides at this venerable institution.
The highlight of the evening
was when the entire audience joined in to sing the closing "chant"
of the the song:
"It's your City, Let's get
Busy - C'mon and Light Up Detroit!"
As they did, they waved
pairs of fluorescent green and orange Olympic light sticks to
create a "We Are the World" kind of moment. It was a very
moving experience for everyone involved and a fitting
tribute to the city of Detroit from a school located in the
heart of the city where Detroit's major resurgence is taking
place.
The Light Up Detroit campaign
is grateful to K'Jon and the staff and students of The
Detroit School of Arts for hosting and assisting in this
elaborate theatrical production. Like so many others who
have given their time and talent to help promote this song
and this city,
they truly "Light Up Detroit" and "Make Detroit Shine". We
are proud to have them as members of our ever-expanding "Light Up
Detroit Family".
